WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Late Sunday night, the NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship Committee announced the 2010 NCAA Division II Championship selections and the University of New Haven earned the No. 2 seed in the East Region Championship, jumping up one spot from the most recent East Region Rankings. The Chargers will take on seventh seeded Pace University in the East Region quarterfinals on Thursday.
The East Region Championship will be hosted by the top seed, Dowling College starting on Thursday, November 18. Dowling takes on eighth seed Caldwell College in the opening round, while fourth seed Adelphi University takes on fifth seed C.W. Post. In the final East Region match, third seed University of Bridgeport will play sixth seed American International College.
The Chargers, also winners of the 2010 NE-10 Championship, will make their fifth straight NCAA Division II Championship appearance this season. In 2008, the Chargers also won the NE-10 Championship and qualified for the NCAA postseason. The 2008 season also marked the Chargers 11th Elite Eight appearance as they captured the East Region Championship as well.
