The Men’s and Women’s Track and Field team had a busy weekend. The Chargers traveled to Philadelphia, PA. for the 2012 Penn relays, and they also competed at Yale.
The women competed Thursday. Briana Conyers, Alissa Howell, Monica Yanez, and Tiara Mitchell ran the 4×100 meter relay. The team placed 63rd overall with a time of 49.56 seconds.
Ivy Watts, Yanez, Howell, and Mitchell also competed in the 4×400 meter relay. The team placed sixth overall with a time of 4:01.64.
On the men’s side Matt Jeune placed third in the high jump eastern section. Jeune posted a mark of 2.08 meters. The men also competed in the distance medley relay. Matthew Dunham ran the 1200 meter, Winston Reid ran the 400 meter leg, Joshua LeBlanc ran the 1600 meter, and Matthew Eder ran the 800 meter leg. The relay team placed 14th with a time of 10:34.91.
The Chargers also competed at the Yale Springtime Invitational Sunday, April 29. On the women’s side, Watts placed third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 59.11 seconds. Yanez placed sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.74 seconds. Yanez also placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.63.
Conyers placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 11.96 meters. Conyers also placed second in long jump with a distance of 5.84 meters.
The women’s 4×400 meter relays ran by Samantha Mathewson, Tania Bernardino, Alejandra Cortez, and Emma Tingley placed eighth overall with a time of 4:28.92.
On the men’s side, Kevin Downing finished second in 100 meter dash with a time of 10.81 seconds, and he also placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.02 seconds. These times qualified Downing for New England Championships.
Jeune won high jump with a height of 2.05 meters. Jeune also placed sixth in the long jump with a distance of 6.52 seconds.
LeBlanc placed sixth in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:01.11. Dunham followed behind LeBlanc in eighth place with a time of 4:03.02.
Nazim Roberts-Smith placed fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.22 seconds, and Reid followed right behind him in sixth place with a time of 51.78 seconds.
Patrick Gosier placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.42 meters.
Next week the men and women track and field teams will compete at NCAA Division II Conference meet.
