Blonde shines in win over Pace
A Northeast-10 (NE-10) showdown between the New Haven Chargers and the Pace Setters gave New Haven their first conference win of the season in a 2-1 win on Wednesday afternoon at Kathy Zolad Stadium. Two key second-half goals for the Chargers made the difference, putting an end to their three-game losing streak.
In what looked to be a scoreless first half, Pace was able to get past Chargers goalkeeper Amanda McQuillan in the 41st minute by Pace’s Hannah Sugden. New Haven was unable to generate any quality scoring chances in the first half, registering both of their goals in the second half.
New Haven tied the game early in the second half with the first of Madison Blonde’s two goals with a dazzling shot to beat Pace goalkeeper Annabella Cole. Following this effort, with the second half starting to come to an end, Blonde was able to get to the net again and put the game-deciding goal past Cole again in the 87th minute.
New Haven was able to overcome its three-game scoreless streak with the big conference win over Pace as they inch closer to getting back to .500. The Chargers, now 3-4-2 (1-3 NE-10), will stay at home for another conference battle against Saint Anselm on Saturday, Sept. 24. at Kathy Zolad Stadium as they look to stay in the win column.
