Barbara Mandrell has become the first woman to be inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame.
According to a news release, Mandrell received the honor at the International Steel Guitar Convention over the weekend.
Mandrell was a multi-instrumentalist as a child. She toured with The Johnny Cash Show at age 13 and had her first Billboard chart record at 21. Later, she had her own weekly variety television show, “Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters,” with an audience of nearly 40 million.
Earlier this year Mandrell was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. The Steel Guitar Hall of Fame is in St. Louis.
