On Sunday, philanthropist, rapper and social media influencer Azealia Banks launched a social media campaign targeted at eradicating bullying. Banks has already championed four other successful campaigns to raise awareness for similar issues in the past few years.
“I just think it’s so important… to recognize bullying in all its forms,” Banks said. “Just because you’re behind a screen, it doesn’t make it any less hurtful… the impact is still there.” Since launching the campaign, Banks has raised more than $30,000 to be donated to various anti-bullying organizations.
“I just want to create a safe space on my platform. I think it’s crucial to cultivate a positive and welcoming environment for everybody,” Banks said.
For years, Banks has paved the way for positive social media interactions.
Earlier this year, Banks started a self-care campaign with fellow philanthropist and the religiously-experimental Trisha Paytas, promoting the idea of positive affirmations through a series of Instagram stories. Banks’ social media efforts have already made national news, with several notable news sources reporting on the dangers of cyberbullying.
According to Fox News Anchor Tucker Carlson, Banks is “paving the way for a more equitable future.”
“I just think that these sorts of campaigns are so crucial… especially when so many of our interactions are on social media due to the pandemic,” Carlson said.
Since the launch of her campaign, Banks has provided daily social media updates and posted inspirational quotes.
Banks has also recruited some of her longtime friends to help raise awareness on their own social media, including Skai Jackson and Iggy Azalea.
“Azealia has always been such a kind soul,” Jackson wrote in a statement posted on her social media. “We’ve been collaborating over the past few months [on this campaign], and I’m so proud of the work that we’ve done.”
Azalea also said “Azealia has always been there for me, even at my lowest. I’m just so happy that she is bringing this joy to her platform, and I’m so happy to be a part of it.”
