Dear Melanie,
I just found out that my dog died while I’m here at school, and I’m miserable. I can’t even go home because of my class schedule, so I’m even more upset about it than I normally would be. Do you have any advice on how I can get over this?
Thanks,
A Mourning Marine Bio Major
Dear Mourning,
First of all, I’m so sorry to hear about your dog! Losing a pet is hard; it’s like losing a member of the family. In terms of coping, however, talking about how you’re feeling is always the best way to get over one’s grief. Talk to your family, your friends, your roommate(s) – anybody who can help you out and be there to listen. The University also offers counseling services if you feel you could get some use out of them.
XOXO,
Melanie
