Dear Melanie,
I’m a commuter and I don’t have a lot of friends on campus. Any advice on how I can make some?

Dear Reader,
Being a commuter on campus makes it hard because you are basically only there for classes and then leave.
The first place to make friends would be in your classes! Reach out to someone next time you have a group activity or talk to the person that sits next to you and get to know them; you may have more in common than you think. Try meeting up with classmates to study for the next big exam and maybe you’ll make a few friends while suffering together.
Another thing you can do is join a group or club; you’ll definitely make friends doing something you are interested in. There are so many clubs on campus that I’m sure you will absolutely find something that will pique your interest.
There are also lots of events that happen every day; stay on campus after class one day and see what’s happening and you could end up having a great time and making new friends.
The most important thing is that you have to break out of your shell; become comfortable with making new friends and opening up and you will make some! Good luck!
Xoxo,
Melanie
