On Saturday, Nov. 23, junior Mohammed Abunar represented the University of New Haven in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship. The championship was held at Haggins Oak Golf Complex in Sacramento, California and Abunar was one of 262 participants. After completing a time of 32:41.4 on the 10K course,Abunar finished in 206th place.
It had been 23 years since a cross-country student athlete had qualified for the NCAA Championship before Abunar had. Besides his national accomplishments, Abunar had a remarkable season. At the Northeast10 Conference Championship, Abunar finished in ninth place and was placed on the second team all-conference for the third time in his career. Abunar then completed the NCAA Division II East Region Championship in eighth place which secured his ticket to the national championship.
