The fall 2023 semester is coming to a close with finals week being the last obstacle to get through before break. Campus offices are holding different events to assist students with destressing from studying and getting ready to go home. Here are some of those events:
Tuesday, Dec. 12
Despite being the first reading day of the week when no finals take place, there are several stress relief events planned out all day today for students to decompress in between study shifts.
The Center for Student Engagement, Leadership and Orientation will be giving away care packages in the Moulton Lounge on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. When picking up these care packages, students can sit down at the event and relax, according to their Charger Connection post.
The Center for Student Success (CSS) will also be hosting an event on Tuesday, this time titled “Hot Chocolate and Craft Making.” It will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Bartels Campus Center’s Fireside Lounge where students can join Academic Peer Mentors in grabbing study supplies, enjoying hot chocolate and doing arts and crafts.
The Office of Residential Life is collaborating with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) for another destress event called “Finals Study Break.” This event will serve snacks and caffeine to keep students energized along with glitter jars and other stress relief items for students to play with and prepare for finals. This event will take place at the Bartels Campus Center from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Marvin K. Peterson Library will be hosting a “Library Story Time” event at 8 p.m. on Tuesday and at 7 p.m. on Thursday, both on the main floor of the library. Anyone interested in this event can go in their pajamas and enjoy cocoa and coloring while library staff reads picture books aloud to them.
Wednesday, Dec. 13
CSS will be hosting a “Transfer Social” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the German Club. This will be a social event that invites all the university’s transfer students to enjoy some refreshments and get to know one another at this end-of-semester social event.
CAPS will be collaborating with the Accessibility Resource Center to host their “Coloring and Cocoa” event. This will take place in the Bartels Campus Center from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will provide paper drawings to color in along with hot cocoa for students to drink.
Thursday, Dec. 14
CAPS will be hosting their iConnect group meeting at 1:30 p.m. in Charger Plaza room 111. Despite being at the end of the semester, students who are returning will be able to meet with others and make some connections to even develop over winter break.
Friday, Dec. 15
The Marvin K. Peterson Library will be hosting another event centered around relaxing in between finals, projects and studying titled “Unwind in the Library.” This event is similar to CAPS’s weekly therapy dogs event, this time it will bring those popular pups into the library for students who are studying there to take a pet break. This event will take place at 6 p.m. on the main floor of the library.
There are plenty of events happening this week where students can go and get free items or practice mindfulness, so if you have the time, make sure to check them out.
