Harold and Kumar are back to their crazy adventures in their new movie, A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas. The movie picks up six years after their Guantanamo Bay adventure. The movie’s plot is very unique. First, the classic duo has been estranged for two years. Second, we find Kumar to be unemployed (and single) after failing a drug test, while Harold is successfully taking Wall Street by storm and is married.
The plot kicks off when Harold has to host his wife’s family for Christmas. A mysterious package arrives at Kumar’s apartment, but is meant for Harold. When Kumar goes to return the package to Harold, Harold’s father-in-law’s beloved Christmas tree goes up in flames accidentally. This puts them on a crazy quest to find another perfect tree, crashing a party, dancing with Neil Patrick Harris, and a run in with mob guys…the whole deal. They definitely go back to their old ways.
The new installment isn’t just about comedy. It clearly touches on sensitive, and often taboo, subjects, such as, religion, best friends drifting apart, etc. First time director, Todd Strauss-Schulson skillfully and tastefully portrays all of these things.
The chemistry between Harold and Kumar (John Cho and Kal Pen) is undeniable. Maybe it’s the fact that they are great friends in real life. Their inseparable friendship is the definite icing on the cake. The whole movie was a success. The acting, plotline, and everything in general deserve five stars. It is definitely a recommended watch if you’re looking for a good laugh and lesson in friendship.
