2020 Grammy Predictions
It’s that time of year. The 2020 Grammy nominations and broadcast are approaching fast.
So who should be nominated this year, especially in the categories of Best New Artist, Album of the Year, and Record of the Year.
Billboard and Forbes predict Billie Eilish will have a guaranteed spot in the nominations for her album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
Will Lizzo get a nomination for her song “Truth Hurts?” It went viral and became a number one hit within two weeks of release. Her nomination relies on the committee’s decision, though, because the song was released in 2017. She released other songs and albums since then, which could make “Truth Hurts” ineligible.
The Grammys try to have nominees from diverse genres, so Latin artist Rosalía may be a nominee. She made a presence even without a number one hit in the charts.
According to Billboard, genre-defying Lil Nas X could also receive a nomination for his 19-week streak at number one for “Old Town Road.” He holds the longest-running number one of all time. The record originally was held by “Despacito” and “One Sweet Day” for 16 weeks.
Forbes and Billboard predicted guaranteed nominations for Album of the Year. Some of their picks include Arianna Grande’s Thank u, Next, Billie Eilish’s When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, and Solange’s When I Get Home. Both sources also believe Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born has the chance to win another Grammy in this category. Last year, it won Best Song for Visual Media and Best Pop Duo.
Forbes predicted that Beyoncé’s Homecoming: The Live Album and Anderson Paak’s Ventura have chances at nominations. Billboard also predicted A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s Hoodie SZN has a possibility of being nominated for Album of the Year.
The Song and Record of the Year have similar artists predicted to be nominated, according to Forbes, Billboard and Rolling Stone. Arianna Grande, Lizzo, and Billie all expect nominations in both categories. Thank u, Next and 7 Rings by Arianna Grande, Bad Guy by Billie Eilish, and Truth Hurts by Lizzo are expected to get nominations for Best Song and Record.
Watch for the nominations on Nov. 20 to see which predictions were correct. The award show will be broadcast on Jan. 26, 2020 on CBS.
