WWE WrestleMania 37: Two-Night Match Card Event Results

World Wrestling Entertainment’s (WWE) “WrestleMania 37” two-night event took place on April 10 and 11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. The 14-match pay-per-view event aired live on Peacock and was hosted by Titus O’Neil and Hulk Hogan. As the biggest WWE event to take place, this was the first event in over a year to host fans with a sold-out area hosting over 25 thousand fans.

Night one kicked off with the WWE Championship on the line. Champion Bobby Lashley retained as he locked up against Drew McIntyre. The two battled it out until MVP created a convenient distraction, allowing Lashley to apply the Hurt Lock to retain. It was a great match to get the fans back in the flow of things for the rest of the night.

The winner of a 5-team tag team match would be the number one contender to compete against the team of Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the Women’s Tag Team Championship on Night 2. With a Sharpshoot and a Superfly Splash, the team of Tamina and Natalya showed their competitors that not only is skill in their blood, but the veterans showed who the true powerhouses of the division were.

After weeks upon weeks of Champion Seth Rollins belittling Cesaro and his career, finally, there was retribution. With a 23-spin swing and a Neutralizer, Cesaro had a career-defining moment, as he pinned the Grand Slam Champion.

The Raw Tag Team Championships were up for grabs as The New Day defended their titles against AJ Styles and Omos. Omos’ debut was a big success, as he tossed the champions around the ring and ultimately pinned Kingston by standing with only one foot on his chest to secure a victory.

The Steel Cage Match featuring Shane McMahon verse Braun Strowman started strong as Elias and Jaxson Ryker jumped Strowman before the bell rang. However, after weeks of having his intelligence insulted, Strowman was furious and wanted vengeance. Strowman’s remarkable strength allowed him to rip apart the walls of the cage. In typical McMahon fashion, he took a big bump, being tossed from the top of the cage. That combined with a running power slam, Strowman picked up the win.

GRAMMY Award Winner Bad Bunny entered Raymond James Stadium on an 18-wheeler as he paired up with Damien Priest to go up against The Miz and John Morrison. Bad Bunny’s performance was pleasantly shocking as he was able to hit Morrison with his own finishing maneuver, the Bunny Destroyer. In an interview about the match with Sports Illustrated, The Miz said, “To get a spot at WrestleMania, you have to be at the top of your game. I made sure Bad Bunny earned it. This match was about respect, and Bad Bunny earned my respect.”

Night one’s main event was the SmackDown Women’s Championship Match where Sasha Banks defended her title against Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair. Together, they made history by becoming the first two Black women to face off in a WrestleMania match. The fantastic match brought out only the best from these two competitors. Belair whipped Banks by her hair and lifted her above her head before tossing her into the ring. The unbelievable athleticism between the two women had fans on the edge of their seats throughout the match. The EST became victorious as Belair picked up the win to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Night one was rounded out with two announcements. WWE 2K22 has been announced during Night one and is expected to come out in late 2021. Bad Bunny’s 2022 tour was announced to begin.

Night two was off to a relatively unexciting start with “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt returning for his first match since being set on fire by Randy Orton at Table Ladder and Chairs. The match was underwhelming as it only took one distraction from Alexa Bliss and an RKO for Orton to pick up the speedy win.

Tamina and Natalya battled against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the Women’s Tag Team Championship. Even Tamina body slamming the 272-pound champion, Jax, the current champions were able to overcome the veterans to retain their belts.

The iconic frenemies, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn competed to add another memorable match to their long iconic rivalry. Social media star, Logan Paul sat ringside to watch the match. The match itself was not meant to be a highlight of the night but became one when Paul went to congratulate winner Owens and was left face down in the ring from a stunner.

The U.S. Championship was on the line as Riddle and Sheamus battled it out. The two fought intensely until Riddle attempted a springboard moonsault that was met with a Brogue Kick by Sheamus. Sheamus won the belt and left Riddle bloodied up.

WWE hosted a first-of-its-kind Nigerian Drum Fight for the Intercontinental Championship between Big E and Apollo Crews. The match’s rules were equivalent to a general No Disqualification match, just with an assortment of drums decorating ringside. The match ended with Dabba-Kato returning and assisting Crews in victory.

In the Raw Women’s Championship between Rhea Ripley and Asuka, both women showed off their skill sets. The match lacked enthusiasm from live fans in comparison to Banks’ verse Belair from the night before, harming the overall feel. Fueled by trash-talking and brutality, Ripley’s confidence was on full display. This win makes Ripley the first to hold NXT, NXT UK and RAW Women’s Championships.

The main event of night two was years in the making. 10 years prior to the night, Edge announced his retirement because of neck injuries and in 2016, Daniel Bryan retired because he received concussions. In 2018, Roman Reigns was forced to relinquish his championship because of his battle with leukemia. Fast forward to WrestleMania 37, there was a Triple Threat Match for the Universal Championship between those three men.

The anticipated match lived up to fans’ wildest expectations as the three men battled relentlessly leaving multiple moments for anyone to walk away as the champion. Edge had Reigns in a Crossface, with a broken part of a steel chair in Reign’s mouth, as Bryan simultaneously held Reigns in a Yes Lock. Reigns and Edge collided, both attempting to hit the other with a spear. The battle ended with multiple chair shots to each of the three men and interference from Jey Uso; ultimately, Reigns stacked Edge on top of Bryan and pinned both men to retain his title. Bleacher Report said, “An all-timer of a main event and one of the better three-way matches of all-time.”
