Women’s Soccer Suffers 0-1 Loss at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The University of New Haven women’s soccer team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference match 0-1 at Merrimack College Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Chargers fell to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

The Warriors score the game’s only goal in the 27th minute off a through pass and a shot from the near post. That shot was the only shot on goal in the first for the Warriors. The Chargers fired four shots on goal and seven total shots. Lucy Francisco (Lawrence, Mass./Lawrence ) and Nicole Pacapelli (West Haven, Conn./West Haven / Stonehill College) tallied shots on goal in the 19th and 20th minutes, respectively.

In the second half, the Chargers once again led in shots on goal, totaling five. The Warriors registered four shots on goal, while Kim Taylor (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford ) made all four saves for the Chargers. On two different occasions, New Haven posted back-to-back shots on goal, in the 63rd and 70th minutes. Francisco tallied a pair in the 63rd and 64th minutes, while Francisco and Courtney Marra (New Fairfield, Conn./Immaculate) teamed for two chances in the 70th and 71st minutes.

In total, the Chargers and Warriors both recorded 15 shots, while the Chargers held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal. Merrimack attempted six corner kicks, while New Haven tallied three.

Francisco led the Chargers with seven shots, including six on target. Pacapelli added three and two on target.

The Chargers will return to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 14 when they host Pace University in another NE-10 match. Game time is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday is also faculty and staff appreciation day at Kayo Field.
