The Charger Bulletin, Incorrect; UNH Student Has Not Contracted Swine Flu

Print pagePDF pageEmail page and have incorrectly reported that a UNH student has contracted H1N1 (swine flu). The University is in close contact with the student’s mother who notes her son does not have H1N1. Since one of her other sons, who is in high school, does have the virus she has placed her UNH student on Tamiflu as a precaution. The University has asked that her son who attends UNH stay at home one week before returning to campus.

Should any UNH students show flu symptoms they are asked to report to Health Services. Faculty and staff are asked to see their primary healthcare providers. For more information, visit the Centers for Disease Control website at  
Symptoms of H1N1 include:  
•       Fever
•       Lethargy
•       Lack of appetite
•       Coughing
•       Other less-common symptoms include runny nose, sort throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
Please take these precautions:
•       Stay home if you are sick, to avoid spreading the illness.
•       Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the used tissue in the trash.
•       Wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and warm water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
•       Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth to deter the spread of germs.
•       Avoid travel to Mexico.
