Introducing ‘Meet the Chargers’

Starting in the next edition of the Charger Bulletin, we’ll highlight one student-athlete and learn about their lives on and off the field in a new series called “Meet the Chargers.” This series will include an article in the paper, a video podcast on YouTube and an audio podcast available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

“Meet the Chargers” started as an idea I had in Fall 2018 called “Getting to Know You.” Now, with the help of the Charger Bulletin, 88.7 WNHU, and Charger Athletics, we are going to bring student-athletes into the spotlight and allow everyone to “Meet the Chargers.”

Episode one will feature Gabriela García-Perez, a first-year business management major on the women’s soccer team. In our discussion, she talks about her transition to the University of New Haven, navigating the summer and starting college amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ll also discuss her life at home and the role her family has played in her upbringing on and off the field.

García-Perez also talks about the Community Integration Mentoring Program (CIMP), a group that she created in high school to pair high school students with K-8 students to foster a diverse and immersive community.

Look out for the next edition of The Charger Bulletin for where to find Meet the Chargers on your favorite platform.
