WNHU Hosts Annual Lip Sync Battle

The third night of Welcome Week bought a night of competition with WNHU’s annual lip sync battle. On Wednesday (Aug 29) in Bucknall Theater, students were able to take a break from the first week of classes and get out of their comfort zone by lip syncing to some of their favorite songs.

Co-Sponsored with CSELO, this event not only gets the radio station’s name recognizable to the many new faces on campus, but also lets students have a night of relaxation and entertainment with their friends.

Freshmen Diana Barbosa and Jonaya-Mone Muse were two of the many faces that attended the event.

“We mostly came for the laughs,” said Barbosa.

Judge Brett Taricani, production director for WNHU, considered himself to be the “Randy Jackson” of the judging panel.

“If you want to win my vote, you’ll have to have to identify with the song as well as have some great choreography” said Taricani.

The night started with a slight delay due to some technical difficulties with the sound system, but students occupied their time by singing aloud to some of their favorite songs playing on the screen.

With  the sound system finally in place, the battle could commence. First up were two freshmen lip syncing to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody.

While there were many individuals who initially signed up for the event, none of them showed up, which led to audience volunteers.

The first student to volunteer and start the trend was freshman Nick Ribino who lip synced to Beautiful Crazy by Luke Combs.

Another performance that stood out was a freshman’s rendition to Hey There Delilah by the Plain White T’s who he lip synced specifically for a young woman in the audience. There was not a dry eye in Bucknall Theater when he was finished and was praised highly by the panel of judges. The night ended with DJ Jeremy Bellman taking a break of being the MC for the night and lip syncing to Katy Perry’s California Girls. Instead of having a panel of judges of WNHU co-workers, he had freshmen who volunteered take a chance behind the judges table.
