With October almost over, the beloved Halloween season is rapidly approaching and the most popular Halloween films are being rewatched and reaching the right audiences. Halloween films vary from comedy to psychological thrillers and are even a combination of both. The list below varies from all types of genres and are ones that most people have heard of or watched and enjoyed.
Halloween (1978)
The movie “Halloween” is a horror film directed by John Carpenter and was released in the year 1978. The film starts off in the year 1963 when 6-year-old Michael Myers kills his older sister and is sentenced to 15 years in an institution. It is when he’s being transferred that he ends up escaping to return to his hometown with the purpose of killing some of its residents.
Child’s Play (1988)
The film “Child’s Play” was directed by Tom Holland, who sees dark magic put onto a doll named Chucky (Brad Dourif) that’s eventually sold off to a kid named Andy (Alex Vincent). After Andy witnesses the murder of his babysitter from Chucky, he tries to warn everyone around him but with no one believing him, he’s put in an institution with the hope that his mom will make people believe him and not end up with him being killed by Chucky.
Scream (1996)
“Scream” is a horror film directed by Wes Craven and based around the story of a masked murderer commonly known as Ghostface, who is stalking and murdering high school students after the anniversary of main protagonist Sidney Prescott’s (Neve Campbell) mother.
Hocus Pocus (1993)
A comedy film directed by Kenny Ortega revolves around three witch sisters who were released by two friends in the witches’ old home. With the assistance of a talking cat named Binx (Sean Murray), they have to find a spell book that the sisters are trying to use to help them become immortal and stop the witches from continuing with their plan.
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
A fantasy film that revolves around Jack Skellington (Danny Elfman) becoming bored with Halloweentown and his repetitive nature, so he wanders off into the woods and finds Christmastown. After becoming interested with their customs, he tries to transform into the new Santa Clause.
The Addams Family (1991)
A comedy movie directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and the first movie in a duology that sees the titular family discovering their long lost brother and uncle, Fester (Christopher Lloyd), but with some suspicion from the matriarch, Morticia Addams (Anjelica Huston). The brother eventually shows his true colors when he tries to steal from the family.
Casper (1995)
A movie produced by Brad Silberling brings to life a friendly, flying ghost named Casper who resides in a mansion. With the discovery of the ghost living there, the residents try to communicate with Casper, but the ghost ends up falling in love with James Harvey’s daughter (Christina Ricci) and tries to communicate with her.
