The Undergraduate Student Government Association is a student-run organization, charged with the duty of being the voice of the students. Better known as USGA, it has grown tremendously over a short period of time.
Working alongside the Office of Student Activities and the Dean of Students’ Office, USGA has played a crucial part in facilitating the formation of many of the clubs and organizations currently on campus. USGA serves as an umbrella for these clubs, providing them with financial assistance as well as networking opportunities. This assistance allows the clubs and organization to hold concerts, comedy nights, lectures, films, carnivals, and a variety of other social and cultural events.
The club fair and student leadership conferences are examples of events that the USGA holds each year; yet it assists with many others including Welcome Week, Homecoming, and many others. USGA continues to grow each year along with the increasing magnitude of the student body.
With this growth, the USGA intends on implementing new initiatives, to help the organization be more efficient. One of these initiatives is the radical change in the nature of USGA’s committees. This year, the committees will be taking a more proactive approach to assisting students with their issues; whether that issue is academic based, technology based, or even food based. Another initiative USGA has implemented is the creation of a Chief of Senate Position. This person will be in charge of many of the events that The Senate, the group of students that represent you, hosts this year. The most important aspect of USGA is the opportunity that it allows each student.
Any group of students regardless of race, religion, creed, gender, or sexual orientation can find or start an organization that caters to their interests if there are other students that agree. USGA allows students an opportunity, to gain real life experience in business meetings, planning events, and even being responsible for the divvying of up to $1.1 million.
This year, USGA will continue to grow behind the leadership of Christopher Rinck, president, Christopher Dempsey, vice president, Heather Brown, treasurer, Darianna Frometa, executive assistant, and Deshawn McGregor, sergeant at arms. USGA is an organization ran by the students, for the students!
