UNH Student Missing, Campus Police Says

UPDATE: As of 6:27 p.m. on Thursday January 19, UNH Police reported that Allie McGrory had been found and is safe. More info to come.

University of New Haven students and faculty received an email at approximately 12:23 am on Thursday January 19 concerning a missing U.N.H. student.

The email, sent by Associate Vice President of Public Safety Ronald Quagliani, asked for any information on the whereabouts of student Allie McGrory.

McGrory was last seen Tuesday night, after claiming to go to the movies by herself. She was reported missing on Wednesday after missing class and softball practice.

The email also contained information on McGrory’s appearance, citing her as an 18-year-old female with brown hair and brown eyes, 5′ 2″ tall. A picture of McGrory was provided, but is for internal use only.

A text message was sent out to UNH students through the emergency notification system early Thursday morning, echoing the earlier email saying Campus Police was “actively trying to locate student Allie McGrory.”

At a press conference Thursday, Police indicated a collaborative effort to find McGrory, lead by West Haven Police.

Sergeant Tammaro of the West Haven PD said the investigation was being conducted around the general New Haven area and family was notified to watch for her at her home in New Jersey.

Police could not confirm or release any of McGrory’s personal info, other than the fact that her family and friends had noticed that she seemed “distraught.”

Director of Media Relations at UNH Karen Grava added that “the safety of our students is of the utmost importance.”

Grava also added that counseling services had been offered to McGrory’s friends and softball teammates.

McGrory is a freshman at UNH from New Jersey majoring in Marine Biology.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Campus Police at 203-932-7014.
