Samantha Mathewson is a senior majoring in Communications with a double minor in Photography and Environmental Science at the University of New Haven. She is from Saratoga, New York.
Samantha became involved with The Charger Bulletin as a freshman, knowing she wanted to later pursue a career in the Journalism field. She started out writing weekly on-campus news articles, and taking pictures of various events, then later branched out to other sections of the newspaper to cover everything ranging from opinions, to sports or entertainment. During her sophomore year she became a copy editor for the 2012-2013 school year, as a junior she was appointed Assistant Editor, and for the 2014-2015 school year she will serve as Editor-in-Chief.
Samantha has study abroad in Iceland and San Salvador Bahamas covering various topics such as landscape photography, photojournalism and narrative writing as well as environmental photography and field research. During the summer of 2014 she was an intern at the New Haven Register learning about reporting and photography.
Samantha is also a member of the Women’s Cross Country and Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field teams, photography club, on-campus sports events film crew, Elm City Review, the Chi Alpha Sigma Connecticut Beta Chapter of the National College Athlete Honor Society, the Society for Experiential Education, and is the President of Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honors Society. She also does community service with Career Access Services, taking class notes for students with disabilities.
Samantha plans to pursue a career in travel writing and photography.
