Executive producers Selena Gomez and Mandy Teefey have been working on producing Netflix series Thirteen Reasons Why based on the book by Jay Asher. On Friday, March 31, all 13 episodes went up on Netflix. Fans of both the book and Gomez have been anxiously awaiting the arrival.

The series is about a girl named Hannah Baker who commits suicide. Upon doing so, she records tapes explaining why she did it. Each tape has two sides to it and each is based on a person. There are thirteen tapes in total, and thirteen reasons why she took her own life. A few weeks after her death, Clay Jensen, her classmate is given the tapes by an anonymous person who left them on his porch. Each episode features both present time and flashbacks.

Hannah Baker is played by Katherine Langford, whose first big role is Hannah Baker. Dylan Minnette plays Clay Jensen, is been known for his roles in movies such including “Let Me In”, “Don’t Breathe”, and “Goosebumps.” Gomez posted a photo on Instagram on February 6th and captioned a picture with Katherine and Dylan saying, “After 6 years of waiting to find the perfect Hannah and Clay for 13 Reasons Why, I couldn’t be luckier we cast these two.”

The series focuses on Clay who is searching for answers. Along the way he encounters the subjects of the tapes and is left with more questions. The first side of tape 1 focuses on Hannah’s love interest Justin, who is played by Brandon Flynn. Toward the end of the pilot it becomes clear that Christian Navarro’s character, Tony, may know more than is lead on.

I read the book for summer reading one year, and I absolutely loved it. I thought it was well written and really hooked the reader in. Now that it is adapted for television and I get to see the story played out in front of me, I feel that I have a more vivid image of the book. I personally loved the pilot and thought the crew did a good job making Hannah’s story come to life. I will definitely keep watching, and I personally recommend that everyone should watch.

Fans have taken to social media to post their responses to the series. People have stated that they are hooked on the show, just after watching the first episode. And others, have mentioned how they spent the whole day (Friday) binge watching it.
There are 13 reasons why Hannah Baker killed herself. Who is to blame? Why did she do it? Watch 13 Reasons Why on Netflix to find out.
