Over one hundred students gathered in Bartels to find out who would be performing at this year’s Spring Weekend. On Friday night, Vanessa Bayer and Streetr Seidell will be performing stand up comedy, and on Saturday night, Kid Ink and Timeflies will be performing at the annual concert.
“The audience reaction was better than we expected and we are happy with the artists we chose,” SCOPE’s Vice President of Finance, Heather Eng, said.
The American pop band Timeflies includes Rob Resnick and Cal Shapiro. The two met while in attendance at Tufts University and in 2011 their debut album was released. A year later, they released their first EP. Since then, they have released three albums and two EP’s. Every Tuesday they post a new video to their Youtube channel, Timeflies4850, as part of Timeflies Tuesdays. Videos include covers, remixes of songs, and freestyles. The band is most known for their song “Once In A While.”
American hip hop artist Kid Ink is best known for his song, “Show Me” featuring Chris Brown. Kid Ink has collaborated with artists such as Steve Aoki, Sean Kingston, 2 Chainz, Fifth Harmony, Fetty Wap, and Akon. He has released four studio albums, six mixtapes and one EP.
“We went in the direction of what the campus wanted based on our survey we sent out in the fall. We listened to them as much as we could and this year worked out better than the previous years. The two artists are different enough from each other so they will draw a wider range of students,” SCOPE President Teri Tozzi added.
Vanessa Bayer and Streeter Seidell were announced as the comedians who are performing on the Friday of Spring Weekend.
“Vanessa chose Streetr as her opening act because he’s a writer on Saturday Night Live, and he opened for last year’s comedian, Aidy Bryant. Last year, students responded well to him and this year he will be bringing new material,” Tozzi said.
Vanessaa is best known for her active role on SNL, and Streeter is best known for being an SNL writer.
Sunday’s “drive-in” movie will be the recently released, Disney’s Moana, shown on a big screen in the Bixler/Botwinik Quad.
This year SCOPE is selling the tickets online through www.eventbrite.com, and tickets will be available from March 27th to March 31st. The tickets are first come first serve basis. Students will be receiving more information to their student emails soon. SCOPE will also be tabeling in Bartels from March 27th to March 31st, and will be there helping those who need it.
